The Goddess Interpreted-Review

Goddess Interrupted (Goddess Test, #2)

If you have not read Aimee Carter's first book The Goddess Test I highly suggest you do so. The Goddess Interrupted was an amazing second installment.  Kate and Henry create a thick tension that you just have to keep reading about, and the ever envious Calliope (Hera) brings the vapid rudeness. The drama is on an entirely new level. I love the Greek mythology, its some of the best I have ever read. The twists & turns of this plot had me on the edge of my seat. Aimee is so talented & I can not sing her praises enough.  She left me in great anticipation  for Goddess Inheritance, is it really coming out in 2012 too?

Shifting-Review

Shifting

Maggie is different, and she has struggled with it all her life. A counselor takes a chance on her by sending her to live with a strong willed old lady he knows in New Mexico. Maggie's life will forever be changed, when she meets this lady, starts a life in this town, and falls for a boy named Bridger. Her mysterious gift will be brought to light, and maybe life will be worth living for her. Shifting was the first book I read this year. Bridger and Maggie were two very complex moving characters. I instantly fell in love with them, and their story. I also loved the New Mexican town Bethany used as the setting, it was described perfectly, and it made want to visit there someday. Shifting had amazing prose, and a flow that made me comfortable. The characters were realistic & passionate, and I loved the conclusion, it was fast paced & fulfilling. Bethany is incredibly talented, and I look forward to reading more by her in the future.

The Secrete Circle Series-Review

The Captive, Part II and The Power (The Secret Circle, #2-3)

I kept telling myself I would not read these books, but I did. I wanted to just enjoy the show, but I am way too impatient for that. The Secrete Circle series is now one of my all time favorites. The writing is ordinary nothing stellar, just good entertainment, but nothing is wrong with that. I just really love LJ Smith's ability to do a love triangle,  she does it  so there are no painful hurt feelings, and I usually always feel really good for the boy/girl who is left out in the cold. If you like the show I strongly suggest you pick up the first book its really great, but the second one is even better. I wanted nothing but happiness for Cassie and Adam, but felt like it was impossible, then I wanted Nick and Diana to be happy, but again impossible.. Then LJ works it out, and your left feeling content. We find ourselves wondering what will occur between Adam and Cassie, its all really entertaining, also Nick creeps into the mix, which will stun anyone watching the show. The characters are a little different, but the essence is still present, unless your Deb and I'm pretty sure you are not even in the show, or the poor twins. The third book was my favorite, and it really cleared everything up, I just really loved it. I can not tell you its because I was moved or left aching for more, its just because I had fun. I really love LJ for that, and if you are wanting to be moved by her may I suggest The Secret Vampire (Night World 1) it will move you, if you like her, but want more depth. She in my opinion in The Secret Circle Series, made you examine right and wrong, and think of power in a new light, sometimes it can be too much, and also sometimes we can never escape the crimes of our parents.

Anna Dressed In Blood-Review

Anna Dressed in Blood

Kendare Blake is my new go to author for creepy horror stories. I really like books similar to Anna Dressed In Blood, its just  my scene. If you love Supernatural this is a book for you. Cas (Yes even a character named Cas) is compelling, and fun to read. His group of rag tag friends are just as great. Anna herself evokes in you emotions you never thought possible. It has a serious undertone, but it does not drag you down.. It has its moments that just blow you away, and then you laugh. I was really happy with this book. I tried to stretch it out, it took me longer than usual, but like I've mentioned so many times, pesky school gets in the way.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children-Review

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Ransom Riggs is like really great. This book was unstoppable, plus the amazing pictures just make it better. I was not quite sure where this was all going, but when it got there I loved it. The entire premise of this story was just so peculiar. The characters were creepy, and the way it all came together made me happy. This book was just amazing. I loved Miss Peregrine and Emma the best though. The idea of time loops were just right on, it made think of Hourglass though, but I loved Hourglass. This is just so vintage and creepy I loved it.

Retribution- Review

Retribution (Dark-Hunter, #20)

I really love Sherrilyn a lot, she is one of my all time favorite authors. I loved the cowboy feel that she gave Retribution. I love how her characters are not really all that likable at times, their true to themselves even if it means the reader might not like them so much. Sundown is who he is, he is a Dark Hunter for a reason, if your privy to the point of this series, you know Artemis chose him for a reason. Abigail is misguided, and you really are frustrated with her for a lot of the book, everyone is. She causes a lot of problems, but her heart is in the right place. Revenge and forgiveness play huge parts in this story, and Sherrilyn is a master when it comes to the action packed ending. I love her epic fight scenes they are some of my favorite in urban fantasy. This was just what I expected of her, and a great contribution to the series.

An Ice Cold Grave- Review

An Ice Cold Grave (Harper Connelly, #3)

This was the best one yet, Harper and Tolliver never disappoint. This was my favorite case, I was thinking about it all the time. I had to know who the killer was it was driving me crazy. I love the mysterious atmosphere Charlaine created. This was such a strong installment, and the writing just got better. Harper and Tolliver have grown so much, and I loved being a part of their maturing. The dark twisting creepiness of this book blew me away, and how Harper stays so well adjusted astounds me. I just love this series and I love Harper.

Outlander-Review

Outlander (Outlander, #1)

Well, everyone calls this one epic. I'd have to agree on that. Claire is one of the best MC's I've ever read. I've also heard you either love this one or hate it. I really loved it, the beginning started off a bit slow but it is an epic after all. I really loved the Scottish history, and Jamie. I just loved everything about him. I pictured him so clearly in my mind. I had not read a book like this n a long time, a love so strong that can conquer anything. The secondary character were funny, and useful, but it was obvious you were to focus on Claire and Jamie. The lore & the twisting plot, it was just a winner. I'm really glad I read this book, I learned a lot of the Highlands & a lot about epic love.

Hourglass-Review

Hourglass (Hourglass, #1)

Nursing school has not been quite as hard as I imagined. I'm stuck taking a class on old English literature, and I'm not a fan... I think I will like it better once we get to Shakespeare.. My Anatomy class is kind of hard but only one day a week, today I start Psychology so I have no idea how hard it is yet, I do know that it lasts like 4 hours though. I think I can probably squeeze a few reviews in every now and again. I have been reading though, so I have books to review. I think I'll start with Hourglass by Myra McEntire

What initially made me want to read Hourglass was the cover. I just really enjoy it, it's very different at least I think so, also I follow Myra on Twitter & she seems really sweet & funny. I read the synopsis & decided it was a sure thing. Emerson was for me engaging right from the start. Her personality was vibrant, she reminded me at times of myself.. I already knew what she looked like due to some good fan art, so getting to know her was fun. Michael was secondary for me, I liked him but I was locked in on Emerson's story. They both are special though not in a typical way, I liked that. The characters all felt perfectly constructed, the plot was stellar. I myself compared it to Inception in some ways. However it was a very fresh Paranormal YA. I think the best authors can take something normal like a love triangle & turn it in to something more, Myra did that :)

Blue Diablo- Review

★★★★★

If you love words & when words come together to create pure awesomeness I honorably suggest you read Blue Diablo. Ann Aguirre is an amazing talent, whom you will for sure enjoy. I can not believe I wasted so many minutes not reading her work, Corine Solomon is a true gem where Urban Fantasy meets so much more is concerned.

Corine is hiding from so  many people, Corine is gifted. She can touch things & know their story. She can find people too, but its a curse not a gift. Nothing comes without a price & Corine's scarred hands and gypsy lifestyle prove that. Her ex-fiance Chance rolls into town with a missing mom, he needs Corine's gifts. She is leery naturally, but she can still not turn him away he was her first real love. This book has a lovely hint of mystery, and wandering its a road trip supernatural esqe amazing piece of fiction. I can not wait to keep reading Corine's tale.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Review-& a Horrible Story About How Tumblr Ruined My Life

★★★★★

Anyone who has read this book that I know has told me to read it, well I did FINALLY. I was camping when I read it, and wanted to cry and laugh, and just tell the world how awesome it was. However, I could not I was in the middle of nowhere on an island with no internet. Then I was just beyond ready to start the second one as soon as I got home, but Tumblr ruined my life. One girl in particular ruined my life, she for some stupid reason posted the ending of the series in a Tumblr post, with the FIRST books title as the tag. I who only know what happens in book one, am now privy to the ending of the entire series, and my soul is crushed. *sad panda* I will still read them, but at first I did not want to I was spitting fire balls, and told the girl how horrible she was, I might have over reacted but really girl REALLY?! This  book is love triangles, heartbreak, one amazing summer, and one beach house that is magical where people walk in and out of your life leaving it changed forever.

What can I say Belly is amazing JEREMIAH is amazing, Conrad is well Conrad. The beach setting was right on, it made me long for North Carolina (my default beach).. The story was just pure beauty and goodness. Nicholas Sparks wishes I loved his books this much. Susannah was basically a real person in my eyes, and I feel like I know her. I just gravitated toward Jeremiah, but come on Conrad is Conrad, this was the best love triangle in the history of my reading career, Jenny Han is a freaking genius. I am so rambling because I'm still so fired up about that spoiler shrew, and I just love this book so much. All I can do is tell you to trust me and everyone who has read it.. I say buy it, read it, love it!

Wrapped-Review

★★★

I was pleaseantly suprised by Wrapped, I like historical ficiton enough, but this was different. It had a Mummy vibe, like the movie?? Anyone? It was really entertaining. I was happy with it.

The plot was pretty smooth, it was a nice clean romance with just enough spies and adventure to satisfy you. I really liked the back-story and the family element. I am a huge fan of the Mummy movies so that historical avenue was awesome for me. I liked the little tidbits about Egypt tossed in there, and the espionage. Agnes was a very likeable MC, also the Jane Austen sprinkled throughout the plot, can you say WIN, perfect addition to the story. The story could have had a little more sizzle for my taste, and it drug at some points, but the ending was really satisfying.

How To Ruin A Summer Vacation-Review

Ruined (How to Ruin, #1-3)

★★★★★

If you are an old follower of my blog, you know I am a huge Simone Elkeles fan. She is just a "Instant Buy" for me. I found it strange I had not read her Ruined series, I honestly think it was the covers that drove me away, I know shallow right? How did I fix that, with the new cover for the binded book, all three in one. I can now say I am an even bigger fan, and Amy Nelson Barak is one of my favorite MC's. Must say I really love this cover more than the original.

Amy is full of snark, she is sarcastic as all get out, but you love her. She is so sweet, and one of the most enjoyable characters to read. Her father Ron is adorable, he has never been a part of Amy's life, but not for lack of trying. She is a tough as nails girl, she harbors a resentment for her father never marrying her mother. She and Ron just have a lot of issues to work on, and they will have a lot of time to do it. Ron is taking Amy to Israel to see her sick Safta (Grandmother) whom she has never met. Amy needless to say does not want to go, and is pissed about it. Ron does his best to accommodate her, but he also does not take any of her BS. Amy is a fish out of water in Israel, and she does not mesh very well with her cousin O'snot, or Snotty as Amy calls her. Amy is freaking out, its hot as hades, and nothing is going her way. She does start to bond with her Safta, and she begins to really find herself while in Israel. She clashes with a very tall, very dark, and very handsome boy named Avi.  Avi is broken, and Amy is not the most caring of people, they bring out the best in each other though, he teachers her to care, and she teaches him to laugh. They of course do not get along at first, its hilarious, and Amy's train of thought is hysterical, just so funny. It is not at all like Perfect Chemistry or Leaving Paradise, which struck me as odd, because really this book deals with more serious issues, they are in an actual war zone, with bombs, and Avi has to join the army in three months. Even though all this drama is happening, you find yourself literally laughing out loud for most of the book. Avi and Amy are two of the most intriguing people, it is so lovely to just watch their friendship grow. I really love the direction the book went in, and I can not wait to keep reading.

Hard Bitten-Review

Hard Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #4)

★★★★★

The Chicagoland series is one of my all time favorites. I am a big pusher of it, and I covet Merit and Ethan, they are ranked among my favorites when it comes to UF couples. Merit is a remarkable heroine, and I really love her to pieces. I was more than excited when I got my hands on the greatly anticipated new installment, I was not disappointed.

If you follow me on Twitter, you probably know how outraged I was with this book. That is only because I love it so, I was broken just as Merit was broken. The political wheelings & dealings of Cadogan house were in full swing in Hard Bitten. I do not mind that I love to see Ethan and Merit work their magic. Ethan really came into his own in this book, he seems to really have his head on straight. Merit is struggling still with who she is, and what she really wants, plus she is still bitter about Ethan's former rejection. Jonah a member of the Red Guard has to assist Merit with a case, because Ethan has his plate full with trying to save Cadogan. Jonah added a nice little element of jealousy for Ethan, and I love that in my books. The relationship elements blossom in Hard Bitten, and you find out a lot of truths. This book was extremely hard for me to read, my friend and I read it at the same time, and we were both texting each other like WTF? Did that just happen.. However, when you finish it you know that you have to trust Chloe Neill, and hope for the best. I just can not believe I have to wait until November for the next one. It really seems not so far way, but then a million years away, this book was a trip.

Dead Reckoning-Review

Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11)

★★★

I am a big fan of The Southern Vampire Mysteries, and True Blood. I read Dead Reckoning very fast, and it was pretty entertaining. However, I totally felt like it was just a filler book. I still hold the characters in a very high regard they all still mean a lot to me.

I found myself rooting for Sam more than ever in this book. Also Pam really stood out, she is one of my favorite characters & I love her in the show. Sookie is delightful as ever, and Eric just as charming. For most of the books I spent my nights saying to myself  "I wish Sookie and Eric would get together" well now they are basically married, and I'm sorry but they are SO boring.  As always there was an interwoven mystery to be solved, and I just find shifters so much more interesting, vampires are ok, but I will always pick the shifters.  I'm not sure if Charlaine even realizes it, but the shifters she has created are so much more complex than the vampires. I believe most people come to expect selfish socially awkward hot people when it comes to vampires, shifters just have a lot more to offer. For someone who always gets herself into trouble Sookie is awfully endearing, she is also so real. I love how she puts Eric in his place, and her greatest joy is watching her DVR'd episodes of Jeopardy. This was not my favorite installment in the series, but it was still entertaining.

Shade-Review

Shade (Shade, #1)

★★★★

Smith-Ready changes the world simply by changing our ability to see. — Publishers Weekly, starred review, on SHADE

I read Shade finally, it was great. I had to wait for a long time for it to arrive from jolly old England. I really was first drawn to it because I love Jeri Smith-Ready's other series, she is a brilliantly funny writer, and I of course loved Shade's cover as well. I am really jealous that I do not own Shift, because I really wanted to just keep on reading, but alas I have to wait to get my greedy hands on a copy of my very own, or E-Book or whatever I don't know I could get an E-Book, but I'd rather read it in print to be honest, anyway.

I really liked Aura, I instantly pictured April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation, do not ask my why I just did. Also for some reason I had Logan speaking in an indignant high pitched voice. I really liked Logan at times, and I was not shocked that Jeri wove music all through it considering her other books. The plot was stunning, I really loved the ghost factor, the world she created was very real to me. I however, was bummed for most of the book because I was like, oh man this is so contemporary and sad, I don't mind that, but I wasn't expecting it for some reason. However, once I got my mind wrapped around the idea I was very intrigued. Aura and Logan seemed wrong to me at times though, like they just didn't click, even when they were both living. Like I said it was very raw and real, I appreciate Logan, but I just liked Zachary more, hah! his last name is Moore, only funny to me? Very well moving onward. Zachary was you know alive, and they had actually more in common, and he seemed far less whiny, Logan seemed like a brat to me, I mean Megan actually called him a brat once in the book. I liked Megan, she seemed like a very levelheaded good best friend for Aura, and I liked Aura's Aunt Gina too, Aura seemed to surround herself with very likable people.  The book was very good, and I will certainly keep reading, I want Shift badly, like I'd scream with joy if it showed up at my door.

Shine-Review

Shine

★★★

I read this book back in January, but it came out today, so I'm posting my review now. I gave it 3 stars, because the ending broke my heart. I'm mean honestly tears poured from my eyes, I was very invested in this book. I really enjoyed it, so I hope you do too. Also now that they have cast Katniss more people will know about Winter's Bone, so the reference isn't as lost on everyone. I'd actually watched it way before Jennifer was cast as Katniss, and at the time thought to myself how perfect she was for that role. Anyway, Hunger Games side note aside, this book was brilliant.

I LOVED this book , I'm seriously having to write this review now because its so necessary. This book is beautifully written, the characters are flawless. Its just a wonderful southern Gothic novel. I was moved by its message for gay rights, and just extremely deeply connected to the characters. I thought Cat was brilliant, I loved her entire family, I live in a place eerily similar to Black Creek North Caroline, so it hit home on a lot of levels. I also watched a movie Winter's Bone's recently that really reminded me of this. Meth is a seriously dangerous drug, and just everything about this book and the message it sends is perfect. I could not stop reading, the slice of North Carolina small town life with gossip and poverty, the meth use, it was just REAL. However, I'm sure your like, "Why three stars if its so awesome, and freaking perfect?" I'll tell you, and this has happened to me so many times its not funny. I got so invested in this book it wasn't normal.

I was like IN LOVE with one character, he is it, my favorite, I wanted to maybe skim a little to get to him, thinking this will be great, I want him with Cat, I love him. I was physically happy to read this book when I wasn't reading it, I wanted to be because I loved him so much. Then, the most horrific thing happened. HE WAS EVIL! I was fooled, so fooled, then I felt totally stupid, also I hated myself. I was lying too myself for a while in the back of my head I was thinking, he's evil, its him he's the bad guy, Cat is looking for him, it has to be him. I just SO did not want it to be. When Cat was in the gay bar, and the bouncer started to describe him, I felt EXACTLY like Cat, totally heartsick, DENIAL DENIAL, but it was too in your face at that point.. I was CRUSHED....It just about caused me actual sickness, I swear. I felt bad that I had been so enamored with him, then he turned out to be CRAZY! Still the writing was just so eloquent that I was still able to feel sorry that he was so confused and broken. Then as if that wasn't bad enough, he had to go and nearly kill a small child, I was just too emotionally invested to handle that. I was actually alone in my living room going "NO!!!!!" I'm sure if your smart enough not to get attached to the crazy guy then you'll love this book its basically amazing. I have warned you though if you start to get the feeling that maybe someone is hiding something as you read, that maybe he's like possibly also gay, and maybe evil, and maybe its weird the way he's so shady, but Cat is just not seeing it, but he's so awesome, STOP STOP STOP HE'S EVIL, DO NOT GET ATTACHED TO HIM HE WILL BREAK YOUR HEART!!!!!!!!! I mean looking back, unless your totally denying it like me or Cat, then its foreshadow city, but then again, he's just NOT EVIL until you know he tries to kill a small child, then your like, I'm stupid, I should not be allowed to read big people books. There you have it, I sincerely suggest you read this book, and find out for yourself who I'm talking about, it truly is a beautiful book with a wonderful message. Lauren Myracle did a fantastic job, I loved how invested I got, I do the same thing when I read Jennifer Echols books.. The writing just gets to me

A Game of Thrones Book-Review & A Cool Map

AGameOfThrones.jpg

★★★★★

Like mostly everyone else I arrived late to the party for Game of Thrones. I saw it on HBO, and I will be honest at first I was so confused. I had no idea who anyone was, so many names. However, once I got into it, I realized how truly epic and awesome it was. I've kept watching the show and each episode just gets better. The book did not disappoint me, not even once. The show so far has stayed very true to the book, and I really like that. The book was just as beautiful and adventurous as I thought it would be. The best part is you never get tired, and you never feel like your bored because of the multiple alternating points of view. I also really can not get over the way George R.R. Martin's words truly paint a picture in your mind, plus if you've watched the show that really helps. Also the greatest part, the most mind blowing part had to be the ending, one of the greatest endings I've ever read. I just got attached to every single character.  I cried several times, and had to remind myself that they were in fact fictitious. This book was just incredible, I just hope I can do it justice with my ramblings and chart making.

I was truly swept away with the politics of it all, and I really love how several times characters drew you back to the title, "Go ahead and play this game of thrones if you wish" they would say things like that, it was just so cool to me. This really is an epic intricate fantasy, the first book really sets you up for a long haul. It isn't a huge info dump like you'd imagine, its honest and entertaining while being informative. Plus I believe for trying to provide a realistic picture of the time and place, its extremely tasteful, and not that in your face with things. When blood, war, guts, or sex have to occur its not shocking, its just made to feel like a part of life. The writing of course was amazing, otherwise it probably wouldn't be made a show or video game, its really worth the read. The book might seem huge, but it really flies by fast, its not overwhelming like you'd maybe expect it to be. The ending like I mentioned is crazy good, and really leaves you wanting the next book ASAP.

Angel's Blood (Guild Hunter #1)-Review

angels' blood

★★★★★

Oh what a wonderful world, no seriously. I was talking with @NerdIs_TheWord on Twitter, who got me to read Nalini Singh, and she told me what a great world builder Nalini was, and boy was she ever right. The detail with which Nalini Singh describes a room is so vivid without being too wordy. The way she paints a picture of angels flying in and out of a building in a futuristic but breathtakingly beautiful fashion, its just stunning. Then as if the magnitude of the new world were Angels rule, and have the ability to make vampires isn't enough, she lays a crop of complex, emotionally satisfying characters on you too. Just awesome, only word for it.

Elena Deveraux  is a vampire hunter, a very good vampire hunter. She is assigned one very tough task, the kind of task that might get you killed. She is hired to take down a blood thirsty Archangel, the thing about Archangels though, they are basically the HBIC *head bitch in charge*, they rule the entire world, and this particular one has gone bonkers. Raphael, is in charge of New York, and he personally has to deal with Elena and bring her up to speed on the entire matter. The thing about him is though he's very stoic, beautiful and just unreal. Its hard to even have a conversation with him because he is a freaking Archangel, and that weighs on her mind. He is the type to play mind games too, so its all very stressful. He is lethal, but he takes a liking to her, not to mention he needs her to snag the rogue angel. Their witty barbs are hilarious, and their chemistry is intriguing. Its nice to see Raphael's perspective from time to time, and Elena's streaming thought made me giggle out loud several times. The plot read like a true mystery which I loved very Charlaine Harris, its so nice to have something to occupy your mind other than the steamy love scenes, just my opinion though. Just a very quick and satisfying read, I'm anxious to see how it all plays out in the second book, I'm a fan.

Knight Angels:Book of Love-Review

★★★

I have noticed these books around for quite some time, but was truly captivated by the cover. When I started reading I was fascinated with Abra's choice to do so many POV's. Every character felt so real, Jane felt ghost like, and that is what I believe was intended. When reading you could tell Jane was not of this world, she lived mainly in her head, haunted by everyone's death. Still, you could not mistake her she was selfish, one of the most selfish characters I've ever read, honestly. I think that was the entire point, in order to feel sympathetic toward the other characters, you had to witness how flawed Jane actually was, it was nice.

Max was also selfish at times more selfish than Jane, they were made for each other honestly. Max never could see anything beyond Jane, he was a little Edward Cullen like he had Jane on the brain 24/7. They were both so obsessed with each other and their Angel like duty, and keeping Greg away from Jane, that no one even bothered to notice Emily Jane's sister could read minds, and Wes was a shape-shifter. While Emily and Wes finally discovered each other, and were able to help the other cope, I really liked reading Emily and Wes's POV's better than any other, they were just more entertaining. I mean at one point Wes actually thought, "I'd tell Jane about my problems but she's just too selfish, and just too caught up in her own  worries to care." I really bonded with Emily more than anything else, and I hated how it took Jane so long to realize she wasn't just a druggie, and wasn't even a slut at all she was a virgin, Jane judged her so harshly, never realizing she self medicated to drowned out everyone's thoughts. I really liked this book, I got really invested in the story, and the characters were very real, it was like very serious, but still supernatural a good  combo. If your a fan of The Vampire Diaries, I really feel like you'll like this book, its very similar to that concept.
