Divergent-Review

Divergent (Divergent, #1)

★★★★★

I'm a huge dystopia fan, I just love it. I recently read Enclave & it was amazing. I found myself comparing Divergent and Enclave a lot, they both were just really awesome. Divergent however turned out to be a  totally unique experience. Divergent was dystopia at its best, I loved every twist & turn.

Tris is going to be sorted, everyone is sorted where she comes from, they are all assigned a fraction. A community they go to live with, it doesn't matter if your parents are from there or not. Tris is a member of the selfless fraction, they are quite plain & very reserved.. oh and totally selfless. Tris just does not feel like its *her*, so she is struggling with what to do. The test is very scary, and Tris takes it with the best of her ability, not having any idea what fraction she will get assigned. The political aspect of this book threatened to bore me, but it was incredibly alluring. I had one problem, it was that Tris was able to adapt so quickly once she arrived at her fraction. I just had a hard time buying someone adapting so fast, but then it worked itself out, when you realize she is more or less faking it till she makes it. I personally thought the idea of fractions, was genius.. dividing everyone up, and making them all the same, it really just puts a division between everyone, cliques at their worst..made for some great drama. I really enjoyed how Tris's mom snuck up on you, she was just there, and then boom she is awesome. I was so fascinated by the fear machine, I just can not even imagine living through that, but they all did..sort of.  It makes you live out & defeat your greatest fears. Loved all the characters.... I really liked Four, from the first page he was mentioned, I was like "There is something about this boy..." & he did not disappoint me.  He was so cute, but scary.. he honestly did remind me of Fade from Enclave at times, but still his own boy. I read on a few blogs that people wished we'd had more from Uriah, a minor character..I'd have to say I agree with that, when he was mentioned he seemed very calm, but tough & he gave Tris a chance when a lot of people would not have. I love how little timid Tris came into her own, and just could not wrap her head around the fact she was not plain & ugly. That would be annoying at times, but the fraction she came from instilled that in her. This book was a bit darker than I thought it would be, but still not depressing. Veronica Roth's writing is just mind bogglingly good, and I have not read a negative review for this book, everyone loves it.

City of Fallen Angels-Review

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)

★★★

City of Fallen Angels was incredibly good, it just for me anyway felt like I expected too much. I really loved the entire Simon/Jace/Maia/Kyle Jordan story line.  I really love Clary and I love Lily Collins, so I am wrapping my head around tolerating her character more. I just find I like the book whenever it has nothing to do with her. I hate Jocelyn she is annoying beyond belief though, I feel bad she just irks me. Jace is very hilarious, "I believe she asked if she could touch my mango?", I'm not sure thats exact, but its close. Simon really stole the show for me, and for the brief time Alec and Magnus were there I was in love. I had really cool quotes picked out, but someone ripped the post its off my book when I left it somewhere, kind of rude eh? Anyway I looked through the book, and couldn't remember them at all, sorry :(

The story itself was really good, but it took a really long time to take off, I felt like I was reading forever.  I loved that Camille was in the book, and I really loved the throwback to Will Herondale. This however made me realize I like The Infernal Devices way more than The Mortal Instruments. I liked learning more about Maia and Kyle Jordon too, that was actually really fun and helpful. Also the little bits we got to learn about Isabelle were nice, I love her and Simon together. The ending to me just felt like an episode of Supernatural, I was like this has been done, I'm very underwhelmed. This book had brief moments of brilliance, certain parts of it were really entertaining, but then when I wasn't entertained, I was like,  will this ever be fun again? I just wish the entire book had been good, and not just certain parts of it.

Easy A-Review

Easy A is about a girl named Olive and she tells a fib. This fib spirals out of control when its overheard by the wrong person, and spread all over school. Just goes to show you how fast rumors really can travel. Olive then is approached to help some guys out with their lame reputations. Olive agrees to it not thinking nothing much of it, other than she is helping out and being nice. The Scarlett Letter is woven all through the plot, and they are even reading it in English. Olive is just hilarious and witty, and Emma Stone as Olive is just fantastic. The entire cast is great so many good people, Lisa Kudrow, Stanley Tucci, and so many more. I really loved this one, and don't want to give away to much, but its worth the trip to the theater. There are some serious notes to the movie, but nothing to heavy. Like I said a totally fun movie, I saw it with my Mom its a great mother/ daughter movie. Some elements might not be cool for young kids but tweens and teens for sure should go. I've also heard lots of other good things about the movie. Did I mention the dude who tried to kill Bella from Twilight is is in it or Dan Humphrey (Pen Badgley) swoon worthy eye candy to rot your brain ladies... Ahh! I just can't push this one on you guys enough! Just trust me on this one.

"A fun refreshing take on the high school movie, full of good wit, and humor"-Final Thought on Easy A

Forget You:Review

Zoey is a perfectionist and Doug is a troubled scary boy. They have never really liked each other since Doug returned from juvie. They were alright until he left, then when he came back they were always at odds. Then after a strange car accident Zoey can't remember, Doug is acting sweet. Will Zoey piece back together her life or will Doug forever be a strange mystery.

I at first was frustrated with this book, I got extremely emotionally invested in the characters. I felt like they were real people, and this led me to critisize their actions and thoughts. I will give it up to the writing though it was excellent but I love Jennifer Echols, so I knew I would like it. Zoey and Doug have a strange relationship, but you can see they are perfect for each other, but then they both jeopardize everything, and it angers you as a reader. That I guess is just good storytelling. I was more attached to Doug than I was to Zoey, Zoey left me disgusted, and I wanted to nudge her in the right direction. Doug also made some horrible mistakes that made me want to scream. The plot was captivating, and the characters strong. For me its all about the characters, so I was pleased with them. I certainly reccomend this one, I even re-wrote my review because I couldn't stop thinking about the book several days after I'd read it.
