Unearthly-Review

Unearthly (Unearthly, #1)

I will admit I'm a newbie when it comes to the Angel mythology. I know its really popular in YA and UF and Paranormal these days. This was my second encounter, I read Personal Demon's this is so much better, and I must say I liked this a lot more. Well and Hush Hush, I always forget that one, I loved it, so I'm getting more into Angels really, anyway..Clara was instantly likable for me, and I really love when I connect with a MC like that, she felt simple, but real. I could tell Cynthia wasn't over doing it, and it was clean, and the story flowed well. The plot of Unearthly fooled me, and I've read a few reviews that say something similar to that. Let me tell you about the plot before I start to really push this book on you, trust me you'll love this. Clara's Mom is half Angel I believe, and that makes Clara even less of  an Angel than her Mom, who is only a half angelic being. There are indeed good and bad Angel's, that is important to remember. The baddies have dark wings, they are the fallen, and they are extremely depressed, and total downers. Clara is good, and her Mom is good, and that's what is important. I loved how in the book you don't get bogged down in all the inner workings of the Angels, its pretty simple once you are actually in the thick of the story. Clara is waiting on her calling, her purpose in life, Angels are assigned a task to complete, and its their one true north, they have to complete it, or I'm not sure what happens, its scary though. The task is so important, you put everyone else's needs aside, and get it done. While Clara is working on her calling, she meets Christian, well what can I say about Christian, he's likable, I guess. He just isn't memorable, that in no way takes away from the loveliness of the story, but he just isn't it for me. He's got lots of hang ups, and he is just too complicated, and mysterious. Then she also meets Tucker Avery, cause what would life be without that ever so popular love triangle, he is Garret Hedlund (Tron, Country Strong, Georgia Rule) I'm sorry I could not help but picture him, Tucker is simpler, nicer, just an all around more likable guy. I kind of get the feeling Cynthia never really intended a serious love triangle, because Tucker is just hands down more appealing. I really love the beauty of the relationships in this story, they really tug at your heart strings, and all the characters seem genuine, the love really comes across in Cynthia's writing. When it was all said and done, I'd made my choice, as if you can't tell from my review, but Clara's life is much more complicated than mine, so who knows what is to come, this is something I am dying to find out, that is for sure. Lovely writing, warm interesting characters, a really fresh story. I couldn't put this one down, and I really loved how it all came together in the end. Plus I love when cowboys, and rodeos are in YA, and its not dorky, but totally sexy. I'd suggest you give this one a try, I wasn't disappointed. I really stand by my rating, I really fell in love with Tucker Avery, he is quite the guy. He is so flipping sweet it rots your teeth, but he is still a punk. He never lets Clara's head get to big, but he will always open the door for a lady, plus he wears  a cowboy hat, swoon. Characters are win worthy, and the plot kept me interested, I was glad I gave it a shot.
