Fire

Fire (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, #2)

If you follow my blog closely then you know its not a secret that I loved Graceling by Kristen Cashore. I tried to read Fire once but something came up, and I just couldn't dedicate the time to it because it is quite long. Fire takes place before the events of Graceling have even occurred. I never thought this possible but Cashore created an even more mystical magical land. The Dells are a place of colorful monsters of all kinds, Fire is part monster part human. She is beautiful beyond your imagination, and can will you to do anything that strikes her. She however barely uses her gifts or mind tricks. Fire becomes a fixture in King Nash's court just like her father was for his father King Nax. The arrangement is extremely different though Fire's father was a mean hard person who abused his gifts. Fire is swept up in the royal politics of spying, and feuding kingdoms. Her best friend Archer is madly in love with her, but its partly due to her enchanting appearance. He also can't stop cheating on her, and that might be a problem. She is surrounded by people who love and care for her even though she is part monster. Even Brigan the army commander and King Nash's brother grows fond of her. He even has every right not to her Fire's father tried to have him killed on several occasions. Fire learns a lot about herself living in King Nash's kingdom. She learns she is a good hearted person who can have a normal life, and be loved by someone. Fire learns a lot about Archer and a lot about Brigan, who both turn out to be more complex than she ever dreamed. You will find yourself completely transfixed with Fire's epic journey of self discovery. All the characters will have you savoring every paragraph, because even the smallest character has depth in a Kristen Cashore book. Fire is put through a lot from the first page to the last, but its all worth it for her in the end. Nothing can ever be that easy even you are a radiantly beautiful monster girl. This is one of the best books I've read so far in 2010 and yet again Cashore does not disappoint me.
