The Iron King

The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1)

Meghan Chase has never fit in at her small-town high school, and now, on the eve of her 16th birthday, she discovers why. When her half brother is kidnapped, Meghan is drawn into a fantastical world she never imagined--the world of Faery, where anything you see may try to eat you, and Meghan is the daughter of the summer faery king. Now she will journey into the depths of Faery to face an unknown enemy . . . and beg the help of a winter prince who might as soon kill her as let her touch his icy heart. The Iron King is the first book in the Iron Fey series.

I'm a big fan of the fey, and am pretty sure I have better fairy etiquette than people etiquette. Never thank a fairy, never eat or drink anything when in fairy land, and an overwhelming amount of fairy nobles seem to have long silvery flowing hair. I'm well learned in the school of fey and am pretty clear on the Unseelie Court, The Seelie Court, and the fairies in between. With all that said its nice to read Iron King because it gave me something different. It gave me something to think about... The iron fey. Iron fey are technology fey such as gremlins, and powerful type feys like Virus a very scary fairy. They introduce us to a new kind well for me new anyway. Out of man kinds quest for better technology they were born. Meghan Chase is the female lead, and she is very entertaining. The fairies she encounters are the ones from A Midsummer Night's Dream you know the Shakespeare play, or you know the movie with Michelle Pfeiffer and Christian Bale. They really are original though when they all come into play. Robin Goodfellow or "Puck" is Meghan's guardian, he is really amazing and I must say I'm team Puck because Meghan also meets a handsome Winter Court Prince Ash during her quest to rescue her brother Ethan. Meghan also encounters a cat Grim who is kind of sneaky but tons of helpful so it evens out in the end. A lot of mystical enchanting fairies and creatures flit in and out of the book, and its all really awesome. Meghan is fun and brave if not stubborn, and Puck and Ash provide lots of funny moments and chemistry. Grim the cat well Grim is hilarious and adds lots of funny commentary. The quest they go on is not terribly drug out like it could have been and I love that. You get the sense of adventure, but you also enjoy the ride. Everything fell into place nicely in the end, and the sequel will be awesome.
