Review: Bitterblue

Bitterblue
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this, no question. I have loved every Graceling Realm book thus far. Fire has been my favorite though, and it still is, but the fact that the Dells make an appearance in this book, it completely made my life. This book had everything you could ask for in it. Katsa & Po, and if you can believe this BRIGAN is mentioned. I seriously love no literary character more than Brigan he's number one in my eyes, well he's mentioned! I loved just how far Kristin was willing to go in making Leck completely psychotic. I also love books where the main character has a supportive group of friends, and Bitterblue sure had a great bunch of people looking out for her. I love her internal struggle to be a powerful, helpful queen. She reminds me so much of the British Queen Victoria. Now do not hate me, but I am only lukewarm toward Saf, he's even a thief, but still that is just not enough for me in his case. I have always had a soft spot for Giddon, so my feelings leaned more toward him. I found myself really questioning just how petty Saf was at times. I felt like he should have been more helpful with the war, and keeping Bitterblue safe. He just felt like a wild lose cannon to me, and Giddon much more stable. Po was a little risky back in his day, but he was always putting Katsa first, and Brigan my God he could not be more perfect, so I felt Saf fell short when comparing him to others. I feel like maybe he was to concerned with the printing shop and truth seeking at times, plus I felt he was struggling with a lot internally. He had the opportunity to sit in on council meetings, and really be a apart of the resistance but did not handle it well at all. I personally felt Bitterblue needed a solid dependable person in her life. I did not doubt Saf's feelings at all, just that he was not exactly right for a Queen at that time in his life. When it came to the parts of the book with Saf and Bitterblue I found myself really wising I was reading about Katsa in the Dells' tunnel. I am really happy with how the book ended, Kristin writes so beautifully, I love the world she has created. The illustrations were really beautiful too, I found myself gazing at them, and I look up and several minutes had passed. I just love the quiet roar that is a Kristin Cashore book.

I felt the same way- LOVE this series, though Fire is also my favourite. I wasn't too into Saf either but I loved how everything concluded. I really liked Bitterblue too. :)

Fire is one of my all-time favorite books, I love it. Getting to just revisit that world for a second was amazing. I wanted to like Saf so baldy!
