Retro Friday-The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride

In honor of Valentines Day, some may say a fictitious holiday meant to make people feel obligated to buy love with candy flowers and or going to Jared, I in spite of that decided to do a Retro Friday Review, the thingy hosted by Angie at Angieville. I chose The Princess Bride, because its awesome, and romantic. I'm sure all of you have seen the movie, probably, if not then how do you call yourself a book nerd, honestly? This is a story of adventure, true love, friendship, and it brought the funny, both on the pages and the silver screen. I mean I will now tell you that yes sometimes the book is just better, but in this case..I'd say equal is more the word to choose. A lot of the things that get lost in the transition of book to movie remained the same with The Princess Bride.  Also it appeals to all ages, why can I say this you ask? Well because I read it when I was supposed to be participating in gym, but instead forgot my clothes, and sat on the bleachers with Westley and Buttercup, much more entertaining. Then years later, I sat at a truck stop in New Jersey reading this to avoid contact with the wayward restaurant patrons. (I wish that wasn't my life, but alas it was)  How can one scorn true love, its beyond me, but the humor should draw you anti-happiness nay sayers in, if not that then perhaps the poison or the sword play? Also I can't drive this home more, this book is insanely, unnaturally like the movie. I don't know about any of you, but I'm sure its a "breakup movie/book" I'm not sure people have breakup books that might just be me, but nevertheless.. Curling up with a blanket probably covered in cat and or dog hair, lets face it if you have a breakup book you have an animal. maybe even a hyper-allergenic cat. I don't know your life, but still you curl up with your blanket, and your Hagen Daz, and escape to this world that was so rich with love and adventure, it will cure your broken heart I swear it. So in honor of Buttercup and the fact true love is out there, read this book on Valentine's Day if your feeling left out or scorned, this book will heal your wounds, and love you back. It will also never leave the toilet seat up, and side with your mother during an argument, trust me.

Great choice! Nothing says Happy Valentines Day better than the bit about the five great kisses, and the one that left them all behind. :)

The movie is one of my favourites ever, but I wasn't a huge fan of the book. I still have it though, so I would like to give it a re-read and see if I like it better now. It's been a few years.

I have to agree that this is one movie adaptation that I think turned out really well. I love the book and the movie equally.

And for those who have not read nor seen the movie... WATCH IT and READ IT... you are so missing out.
