Description Courtesy of Goodreads
When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.

Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate's guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta's magic circles.

The Masters of the Dead, necromancers who can control vampires, and the Pack, a paramilitary clan of shapechangers, blame each other for a series of bizarre killings—and the death of Kate's guardian may be part of the same mystery. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she's way out of her league—but she wouldn't have it any other way…

Rated 5 on a scale of 1-5 (I have yet to rate a book a 1)
I loved this book Kate Daniels ranks right up there with Mercedes Thompson and Sookie Stackhouse...heroines from two of my favorite series's.  Kate is a mercenary or merc. for the Order (I think thats right you can correct me). She is investigating the the death of her guardian Greg who was the Knight Divener.  She uncovers a slew of murdered vampires and shapeshifters. She winds up teaming up with The Lord of Beasts Curran  to try and solve the mystery. Kate is mouthy and tough two of my all time favorite qualities in a person. She is extremely bad ass but I think she has a soft spot for helping people. I also like Curran he is kind of mysterious at first, and I love that hardly anybody gets to actually see him in person. Plus the way he and Kate fight that is hilarious it sort of reminds me of Mercy Thompson and Adam (for those of you who have read that series). Plus I am kind of hoping Nick the Crusader shows back up don't tell me if he does but that would be nice. I loved the cop vibe mixed with the supernatural vibe. Can't wait to finish the series.
