Forgive My Fins Guest Post & Swag Giveaway

Forgive My Fins (Fins, #1)

When Caitlin asked me to write a quick guest post on mermaids for her mermaid week, I said, "Of course!" (Then I slacked a little and turned it in late, but we don't need to dwell on that.) Mermaids are among my favorite fantasy creatures in mythology. I love them so much I wrote a book about them, Forgive My Fins. Two, actually, but the Fins Are Forever won't come out until June 2011.

Anyway, when I started thinking about mermaids, I had to begin with the original inspiration for my mermaid love: the movies. If not for mermaid movies, I might never have fallen in love with the beautiful ladies of the sea. Here, in no particular order, are some of my favorite mermaid flicks of all time.

Splash -- My first mermaid movie. The moment I saw Daryl Hannah with her long blonde curly hair (everything that my elementary school hair was not) and her ability to breathe underwater, I was hooked.

The Little Mermaid -- This Disney flick came out when I was in high school, and my best friend and I went to see it in theaters. Combine a beautiful redheaded mermaid, a handsome dark-haired prince, and some of the most wonderful soundtrack songs ever, and you can bet I owned it on VHS then and I own in on DVD now.

Aquamarine -- An adorable younger mermaid movie (based on the book by Alice Hoffman) starring another blonde curly-haired mermaid, Sara Paxton, who has to find true love in three days.Very sweet.

Obviously, the lure of the mermaid falling in love with a human boy is strong. Like my Lily inForgive My Fins, all of the mermaids above fall for land boys (although one of them does not stay on land). Hmmm, in the future I might have to play around with a land girl falling in love with a merman.

Anyway, those are my favorite mermaid movies. What about you? Do you love these or have any favorites not on the list? Comment for your chance to win a pack of swag, Forgive My Fins bookmarks and mer mark temporary tattoos.

--Thanks Tera for the great post :)

I think the only mermaid movies I have ever seen are Splash and The Little Mermaid. I used to be obsessed with The Little Mermaid (I even had the bed sheets)
