The Lightning Thief

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)

Author:Rick Riordan
Pages:375

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them.

I loved this book. Its one of the best books I have read this year. The way Rick writes is just flat out hilarious.  Percy is the most awkward funny character I have read in a long time. He says some of the most creative things. The way the story unfolds has you on the edge of your seat. All the Greek myths and the Gods that come in and out of the story are so interesting. Its so great its an easy way to learn about Greek myths. The book is such an easy read and fun to. I really loved Percy, Grover, and Annabeth. Plus Percy's mom is such a wonderful person. Wait till you read it and see how they describe the Gods its not what you would picture at all but then its perfect. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I am really looking forward to it. I also can't wait to finish this series the way Rick Riordan tells a story is just so carefree and fun. You find yourself feeling like your going on Percy's quest with him. Also when you get into The Underworld and you actually view Hades as an overworked businessman its hilarious. I am excited to finish this series and see what happens.

Loved the review! I've been thinking about reading this for awhile, but thought it might be too childish for me. I'm happy to be proven wrong! I'll have to check it out from the library. I'm sure the waiting list is horrendousl long though. Oh well, worth the wait!

Great review. My son is currently reading the book. He has been keeping it at school for their reading time. He is moving at a rather slow pace. I was hoping he would have it done by now so I could read it too. And both of us would be ready to go see the movie.

Thanks for the great review!

I just finished this one over the weekend and thought it was great, too! I took my daughters to see the movie a few hours later. Only one of them read the book, the other is reading it now after she's already seen the film. As usual, the movie left out some things that I thought were very important, but overall, the movie was a lot of fun! I hope you get to see it soon.

Christine-I passed mine along to my Dad so I'll have someone to go to the movie with that way I won't feel like to big a dork. I saw that Medusa was Uma Thurman, and I like her but not who I pictured.
